About Us

A foundation built by a family, powered by a community.

JB-LF is an Arlington nonprofit working so that every mother in our community — regardless of income — can bring her baby into the world safely and with support.

Why We Exist

Our Mission

To improve access to prenatal care and support for mothers facing financial barriers in Arlington and Northern Virginia.

Our Vision

Every mother in our community can confidently and safely bring a child into the world, with access to the prenatal care and support she needs. Through resources, supplies and community awareness, we help moms and babies thrive — no matter their income.

Our Story

It started with one mom.

Jennifer Bush-Lawson experienced complicated pregnancies with each of her three children. She had access to exceptional medical care — and knew other mothers weren't as fortunate. Her desire to change that became the inspiration for this foundation.

In addition to his family and career, Neal enjoys cooking and is an avid college basketball fan.

Heather Myklegard

Executive Director

An Arlington mom of three NICU babies, and a marketing leader with a decade of brand, campaign and event experience.

Read bio

Heather leads JB-LF's day-to-day operations, partnerships and programs across Arlington and Northern Virginia.

She comes to the work as an Arlington mom of three — all of them NICU babies. It's the same experience that first set Jennifer on this path, and it means Heather knows what those early days ask of a family.

Professionally, she brings more than ten years of experience leading marketing teams, managing projects and delivering campaigns that reach the people they're meant to reach. Her background spans branding, event management, storytelling and video production — a combination that fits a foundation whose work depends on both raising awareness and running one of Arlington's largest community events.

Throughout her career, Heather has believed that staying connected to the community is what makes the work land. That instinct now goes toward building the local partnerships that help JB-LF reach more mothers who need care.
